Till den sjunde HSF-utmaningen, “Tops & Toes” så har jag gjort et par hosor.
For the seventh challenge of the Historical Sew Fortnightly, which was “Tops & Toes”, I’ve made a pair of medieval hoses.
Jag har redan två par, men eftersom de slits fort behöver jag fler. Mina första par är båda gjorda efter samma mönster. Ett väldigt enkelt mönster, de består av endast en del med söm under foten och längs med baksidan av vaden. Enkelt. Det enda problemet är att det blir lite bylsigt på framsidan av vristen, där foten böjer sig, så jag bestämde att mitt nästa par skulle vara gjorda i ett annat mönster.
I already have two pairs, but since they take a lot of stress they tend to break. That’s why I need more pairs. My two first pairs are made of the same, simple pattern – one piece with a seam under the foot going up the back of my leg. Simple enough. The only problem is that it gets bulky by the wrist, so I decided that my next pair would be made of another pattern.

Jag använde ett mönster som min vän gjort åt sig själv och provade in det på mig. Det är gjort av tre delar, en bendel, en sula och en del för ovansidan av foten. Som det här mönstret på Historiska Världar. Jag använde ett brunt ylle som blev över efter att ha gjort en hätta och sydde ihop dem. Jag är nöjd och har redan invigt dem på ett event på Historiska Museet i Stockholm.
I used a pattern that my friend had made for herself and fitted it after my legs. It’s made of three pieces, a leg piece, a sole and a piece over the top of the foot. Like these at Historiska Världar. I used a brown woolen fabric that I got left from the making of a hood and sew the hoses together. I’m happy with them – they’ve already been used at an event at Stockholm Museum of History.

Jag hade tänkt göra ett par nålbundna strumpor med, men jag hann inte riktigt med det. Det är ingen fara direkt, de blir färdiga någon gång.
I intended to make a pair of naalbound socks for the challenge as well, but they were not done in time. No stress, they’ll be done some day.

How historically accurate is it? Pretty much. I don’t know if the pattern is a pattern used back then, but it’s made with period techniques. The overall look is nice, I think.
