En hätta till – Another hood

Som jag skrev i en tidigare bloggpost så har jag gjort en till hätta. Den här gången är den helt och hållet baserad på Herjolfsnesfynden. Mer exakt så är det hätta nummer 66.

As I wrote in an earlier blog post, I’ve made another hood. This time it’s entirely based on the Herjolfsnes finds. More specifically hood no. 66.

Jag använde mig främst av Else Østergårds underbara bok “Woven Into the Earth”. Först tog jag ut alla mått som fanns i boken på mönsterpapper, sedan vände jag mig till mina egna mått för att få fram det som inte stod med. Nackomkrets till exempel. Jag ville ha den tajt om nacken för att slippa drag under kyliga höstdagar.

Using the wonderful book “Woven Into the Earth” by Else Østergård I measured it up on paper, and then did some measuring on myself to get the measurments that wasn’t in the book – like the neck circumfence. I wanted it snug around the neck for chilly autumn days.

Jag sydde, som jag brukar, i framkilen från utsidan och som ni kan se på bilden nedan så består struten av två delar. Det gör även struten på hätta 66 och min strut är skarvad på precis samma ställe som originalet.

I sewed in the front gore from the outside, as usual, and as you can see in the picture below, the liripipe concists of two pieces. As does the liripipe on hood no. 66. Mine is cut on the exact same lenght.

Hättan är sydd med ulltråd, överallt har jag sytt med efterstygn. Sömsmånerna är sedan fällda med kaststygn och så har jag lagt ned en fyllnadstråd intill den råa kanten.

The hood is sewn with wool thread, with back stitches all the way. The seam allowances are then felled with hemming stitches, with a filler thread underneath.

Runt ansiktsöppningen har jag fållat den på samma sätt, med kaststygn och fyllnadstråg, men jag har också sytt två rader med pricksöm/stickning. Alla dessa lite speciella sömnadssätt är tagna från olika Herjolfsnesfynd.

Around the face opening I’ve hemmed it the same way, with hemming stitches and filler thread, but I’ve also sewn two rows of stab stitches. All these features are taken from different Herjolfnes-findings.

Hättan var färdig alldeles lagom till eventet Anno som jag skrev om. Jag använde den på söndagen när jag höll min workshop. Jag är väldigt nöjd med hur den blev – den känns rätt och håller vinden ute.

The hood was done just in time for the event Anno, as I’ve written about. I wore it during day two when I held my workshop. I’m really pleased about how it turned out – it feels right and keeps the wind out.
