För en vecka sen åkte jag med Carnis till Varbergs fästning för deras medeltidsdagar. Medeltidsdagarna har anordnats varje sommar i ganska många år, men de två senaste åren har det inte hållits några eftersom museet har varit stängt för renovering. I år öppnade de igen och återinförde medeltidsdagarna till fullo. Tidigare år har bara Albrechts Bössor med vänner besökt marknaden, men i år hade Carnis fått en inbjudan med. Vilken härlig upptakt till Azincourt!

A week ago I went with Carnis to Varberg fortress for their medieval market. The market has been an annual thing for quite some time, but it haven’t been held for the last two years since the museum (which are the ones that arrange the market) has been closed for renovations. This year they were open again and they reinstated the medieval market by going big. The other years they’ve been visited by Albrechts Bössor and friends but this year Carnis was invited as well. What a nice way to prepare ourself for Azincourt!

Fästningen finns med i historiska dokument från och med slutet av 1200-talet och framåt, men de flesta byggnaderna är från senare datum när fästningen moderniserats under århundradena. Det är fortfarande en magnifik byggnad som ligger precis vid havet och hyser ingen mindre än Bockstensmannen och hans kläder och det, tillsammans med att dela läger med Albrechts Bössor och att väderprognosen lovade väldigt fint väder var allt som behövdes för en fantastiskt fin helg.

The fortress itself figures in historical documents from 13th century and onward, but the castle and is mainly of later design as it has been improved to fit modern warfare during the centuries. Still – it’s an impressive buildning just by the sea housing none the less than the Bocksten Bog Man and his clothes and that, together with sharing camp with Albrechts Bössor and the weather forecast promising very nice weather was all the ingredients needed for a lovely weekend.
