På Ekenäs Riddarspel färgade vi ju tyg med valnötsskal. Min tanke med färgningen var att det skulle bli en fruhätta av tyget och nu har jag gjort en sådan!

At Ekenäs Riddarspel we dyed some fabric with walnut shells. I intended to make an open hood out of the fabric, and now it’s done!

Jag har funderat mycket över vad som är en bra huvudbonad och har kommit fram till att jag trivs väldigt bra i slöja och även haklin, men det är inte alltid optimalt att ha en sådan ensemble på sig. Exempelvis när man färgar tyg. Eller om det blåser och regnar. Jag har en fruhätta sedan tidigare, men den har jag inte använt för jag har inte riktigt varit nöjd med den.

I’ve been thinking about what’s a good headdress, and I’ve noticed that I like wearing a veil and also a wimple, but it’s not always a good enseble to wear. For example when you dye fabrics, or when it’s windy and rains. I have an open hood since before, but I haven’t worn it since I don’t really like it.

För att få mönstret vände jag mig till fynden. Hättan är främst baserad på Grönland nr. 79 och London nr. 174. Måtten är tagna från Grönlandshättan. Speciellt kilstorleken. Axelkilen på Grönlandshättan är 6,5 cm hög och det är min med. Formen på struten kommer från Londonfyndet.

For the pattern I’ve turned to some of the findings. My main sources are Greenland no. 79 and London no. 174. The measurments are taken from the Greenland hood – especially the gore size. The greenland shoulder gore is of 6,5 cm height and so is mine. I’ve taken the form of the liripipe from the london find.

Som jag skrev innan är tyget färgat med valnötsskal och det är även garnet som jag sydde hättan med. Jag färgade dem samtidigt för att de skulle få samma nyans.

As I said before, the fabric is dyed with walnut shells, and so is the wollen thread it’s sewn with. I dyed it at the same time so that I would get the same colour of both the fabric and the thread.

Jag är väldigt nöjd med hättan! Jag kommer att kunna nåla fast hättan mot min klänning, vilket minskar risken för att den blåser av vid hård vind. Dessutom tucker jag att den ser precis ut som på bilderna. Glad Andrea. 🙂

The result is more than satisfying! I am going to be able to pin the hood to my dress, which reduces the risk of it blowing off during bad weather, and I think it really looks like it does in the illuminations. I am really pleased!

Kilen är sydd från utsidan – The gore is sewn from the outside

Som man kan se på närbilden ovan så har jag sytt i kilen från rätsidan. Det syns egentligen inte eftersom garnet har samma färg som hättan. Jag har också använt fyllnadstrådar när jag har fållat hättan, det ser man till exempel i några av Grönlandsfynden.

As you see on the close up above I’ve sewn the gore from the “right” side. It doesn’t really show since the yarn has the same colour as the fabric. I’ve also used filler threads when felling/hemming the raw edges of the hood, as you can see on some of the Greenland garments.
